Alan Stein, MD
Alan G. Stein, M.D. is currently the Director of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology as well as the Neurohospitalist service at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. He is originally from Madison, WI where he also attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Microbiology. Following graduation from the University of Wisconsin he obtained his medical degree (M.D.) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he completed a residency in Neurology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Following a 6 month journey traveling through Asia, the United States, and Egypt Dr. Stein trained for 2 years at the Barrow Neurological Institute completing a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. He then moved to Honolulu, HI where he started the Hawaii Epilepsy Center (the first clinic devoted to diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders). In 2003 Dr. Stein closed the Hawaii Epilepsy Center to develop a comprehensive epilepsy center within The Queen's Medical Center. In 2009 he organized the Neurohospitalist service at the Queen’s Medical Center and has served as the medical director of that service.
Dr. Stein has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii since 1999 and has served as either its president or treasurer since that time. In 2006 he was elected to the position of President Elect of the newly established Hawaii Neurological Society and has served as the President Elect, President, and Treasurer.
Dr. Stein was born in 1963. He is married to Romelynn Esperanza Stein and has two children (Eli and Haya).
